I’ve been at it again. Scouring the pages of Pinterest in search of DIY projects that strike my fancy. And…without fail…I found more than I can do in a lifetime!
Pool noodles are quite the rage on Pinterest in DIY-land. There are ALL kinds of ideas that you can use with these little wonders. But, my favorites are some of the wreaths. I set out to then make one of my own.
This was a super easy AND inexpensive project! The theme of your wreath will determine your supply list, but this is what I used to create mine.
- Pool noodle (from the Dollar Store)
- Duct tape
- Scissors
- Burlap
- Leftover piece of shower curtain ($1.00 at a nearby thrift store)
- Cording (also a thrift store find)
- Hot glue and glue gun
- Seashells
I began by attaching the two ends of the pool noodle with duct tape. Tip: this is made easier by enlisting someone to help hold the noodle together while you do the taping (or vice versa). At first, it might look like an oval (or at least an irregular circle). But, I happily discovered that once the duct taping was done, it “popped” nicely into a circle and was even a bit pliable if you need to help mold it into that pattern yourself.
I then cut the burlap into strips (about 2.5 inches wide). I took the strips and wrapped them around the noodle and hot-glued the ends.
Next – I cut up a piece of fabric that I found at a local thrift store for $1.00! Score! I discovered it was actually a leftover shower curtain, but I thought it went well with the nautical / beach themed look I was going for. I also cut it into 2.0 – 2.5-inch wide pieces. I then wrapped five of these pieces onto the noodle in various places and proceeded to hot glue them down. I didn’t’ worry about straight edges or anything like that, because (for me) the more rustic the look = the more natural.
Again, going with the beach theme, I chose several seashells and glued them onto the wreath next.
Lastly, I used a piece of cording (also a thrift store find) to make a hanger for a wreath. To me, it kind of resembled a rope that might tie a boat down, so it worked! I tied a knot in it (another nautical attempt) and joila…a beach themed wreath!!!
I bought one more pool noodle from the dollar store, so I see another wreath in my future! Just gotta figure out a theme for that one. Have a great weekend blog friends!
